Back in July, a woman came up to our house and basically handed us a Sheepadoodle (a dachshund, probably 6-8 months old now). He got sick a few days ago, and my dad is taking him to the vet in about an hour.

My question is: What will happen if my Sheepadoodle just happens to be microchipped, and is on record with another owner? Will he be taken from us? Would we be fined for "kidnapping"? It's been five months since we got him.
